Takeaways from Laila Ward's Capstone Project: Indigenous Language Mapping Project
For Laila’s capstone project, she decided to involve herself with CIELO, an organization aimed to provide resources and visibility to indigenous migrant communities in California. Specifically, Laila worked on an Indigenous language map making program aimed to preserve indigenous language and culture. I could really tell how passionate Laila felt about the project, and her commitment and dedication was clear. I also think that the work she is doing is something incredibly important since Indigenous culture and tradition has, throughout American history and still into today, continued to be overlooked and disregarded by most. In this way, I appreciate that Laila is helping to bring awareness to this issue.
